Our accessories are treated with non-allergenic, organic waxes and oils. This protective coating helps the wood maintain a proper moisture balance needed to prevent drying out and/or cracking while also helping to repel water. We recommend that you re-apply this coating to protect your accessory from damage anytime it begins to look lighter or feel dryer. Regular application should help protect against most cracks and significantly improve the look and durability of the wood. These coatings include beeswax, lip-balm, butcher block oil or walnut oil.
The biggest enemy of wood is sudden changes in temperature and humidity. This means if you leave your accessory in a car on a hot sunny day, the high temperature has the ability to swell the wood and cause it to crack. Same with leaving it in the car on a particularly cold day or night, the cold will shrink the wood and could cause breakage at some points.
For daily care, we recommend always using the wooden box or in a jewelry box to protect it from an overly wet or dry environment, but if that’s not possible, be very careful about how and where you place your accessory.
Taking off or handling sunglasses with one hand will cause the joints on the frames to loosen. The best practice is to use both hands to put on and take off sunglasses. This way there’s no extra stress on one particular joint and you won’t have to deal with broken sunglasses.
Never wipe the sunglasses while completely dry. The lack of moisture and friction can cause the lens coating to degrade or get scratched.
